Junior Handler Classes at Shows
At each of the GSDCV Championship Shows and our State breed evaluation, junior Handler classes for our younger members are held, during the lunch break of judging.
The age groups for junior handlers are: 7 – Under 10 years, 10 – Under 13 years and 13 – Under 18 years of age.
Handlers are judged on their general skills and handling of the dog or puppy they are showing, their knowledge (age of the dog, main parts of the dog’s structure) and how they show off the dog to the best of their ability and their developing ring craft.
These classes are a great way for junior members to learn about showing a dog, some tips and handy hints and to practice their skills in the ring with other of their own age.
Many young handlers ‘borrow’ dogs for these classes, so if you don’t own a ‘show dog’ that’s OK, usually someone at the show may have a puppy or older experienced dog they may be willing to allow a young handler to work with. Double handing is allowed, so mum or dad are never far away either !
