Barry Cotton (Vic)

My first introduction to the world of Obedience started in 1987 when the family got a Australian cattle dog puppy which quickly became a naughty puppy so we went off to the local obedience club (Berwick Obedience Dog Club) and as he progressed through the classes i became hooked on obedience and the club. The family progressed to Border collies and three of them have gone into obedience trials with some success.

Over the years i have performed many roles at the club from President, Secretary, and instructor and equipment manager on club days.

I am now a full panel Obedience Judge having completed the UDX license in 2016.

Since gaining my judges licence I have enjoyed judging many obedience trials around Victoria.

I look forward to judging at the 2019 German Shepherd dog council of Australia National and I wish all the competitors well in what they have entered, but most importantly lets make sure we have fun doing it.

Barry Cotton (Vic)

Andrew O’Loughlin (SA)

Andrew is our Junior Showmanship Judge.

Andrew has grown up around German Shepherd Dogs and amongst the show scene after his parents purchased their first dog “Monty,” *Ch Craisan Satans Destiny ‘A’ ET in 1982. Monty was purchased as a pet, but soon became a noteworthy show dog. In 1991, Wayne and Judy established Arkahla Kennels, which Andrew is now a part of. Although we are a small kennel, we have achieved the GSDCA silver medal for both hips and elbows, bred 20 survey classified animals, 5 Australian Champions and 6 obedience titled animals.

Andrew began handling dogs in his teens, and was very lucky to have supportive people around him that gave him a chance to handle quality animals. Kevin and Velga Corlett of Bruangie Kennels were always happy for him to handle their dogs, and were one of the first to give Andrew a chance. Jane Pike, who trained with Judy, had Andrew help train “Paris”, *Ch Blitzenhund Sorbet City ‘A’ ‘Z’ amongst their many training sessions.

Andrew now handles mostly for Jane and Peter of Vonpeta Kennels, who he is lucky enough to co-own *Sup Ch Vonpeta Ugottabekidding ‘A’ ‘Z’ with. “Kid” and Andrew have had a very successful career together, winning in both the specialty and all breeds rings. Some notable results being 2nd baby puppy and junior dog at national shows, 6th open dog twice at national shows, runner up best in show Queensland champ show, best in show Adelaide Districts Working Dog Club, best in show 3rd Adelaide Winter International and many other in show awards.

Andrew enjoys handling in both specialty and all breeds rings which has lead to being a qualified group 5 judge and is now a German Shepherd specialist trainee judge, along with a group 6 trainee judge. He has also helped handle a number of other breeds, both at all breed shows and other breed specialty shows. He is also currently the GSDCA Youth Officer, along with the GSDCSA youth representative.

Clive Makepeace (Vic)

Clive started in the Dog World in 1972 with a Dalmatian at the Croydon and District Dog Obedience Club in Victoria. He is still a member of that club and when his judging/competing commitments allow, he assists with the Trial class. Clive was made a Life member in 1984. During his time at the club he has held various positions including President and Chief Instructor. Clive has trained a Golden Retriever to its Utility title and another to its CDX title. His current Golden INCA has attained her Novice Obedience title and is competing in Open Obedience. INCA is also competing in Novice Jumping.

Obedience trialling beckoned in the early 1970’s with the Dalmatian but because of injury to the dog, trialing was put on hold for a few years. In the early 1980’s he started stewarding at Obedience Trials in Melbourne. In the mid 1980’s Clive started in the ANKC Judging program and is licensed to judge all levels of Obedience. In the late 80’s Clive was also licensed to judge all levels of Agility, Tracking and Endurance tests. Clive has judged Agility & Obedience extensively in all States in Australia and in Singapore. He is very involved in the training and testing of Agility and Obedience Judges in Victoria. Clive with his wife Pam until recent times managed the Obedience trials for their club, Croydon. They had done so for 18 years. Also Clive has been the Trial manager for numerous Agility Trials in Melbourne. Clive is also on the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria Dog Committee and until recent times was the Royal Show Manager for Obedience and Agility.

Clive is extremely pleased to be invited to Judge Obedience at the 2019 47th German Shepherd Dog National Show and Obedience and Rally Trials. He would like to wish everybody the best of luck for a successful National.

Cheryl Bedggood (WA)

My lifelong love of dogs and dog sports was firmly cemented in Kalgoorlie over 40 years ago, becoming an Obedience Judge in 1980. My first dog was an Afghan Hound, who certainly challenged my abilities. She achieved her CD, winning trophies and awards, and she was a member of the local Demonstration Team. I spent many years travelling to Perth to trial with my German Shepherds, with a lot of successes along the way. I was Head Trainer and President of the Eastern Goldfields Kennel Club and a Senior Trainer and President of the Kalgoorlie & Districts German Shepherd Obedience Dog Club. After moving to Perth in 1981, I purchased my first Rottweiler puppies and began helping other Rottweiler owners train their dogs, becoming Head Trainer and President of the West Coast Rottweiler Club.

I have enjoyed judged extensively throughout the state, including numerous Perth Royal Shows and State Obedience, Rally O and Agility Trials, as well as State DWD Competitions. I have also had the pleasure of judging National Agility and Obedience Trials (including National Rottweiler Obedience Trials). Judging in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur have been wonderful experiences too, as has putting trainee judges through the Judges Course.

I am honoured and excited to be a part of the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia National in 2019. I look forward to the events; and wish all competitors the best for a very successful National!

Tania Schumann (Vic)

As a child I grew up in a house filled with animals. I always loved dogs as we had three German Shepherds. At the age of 16 my parents brought me my very own puppy. That was the start of my journey in the German Shepherd Dog Club and competitive world of dog sports. Since then I have gone on to own numerous GSD’s and an Australian Shepherd achieving almost 30 Australian Titles in Conformation, Obedience, Rally Obedience, Herding and Dances with Dogs.

In 2003 I attended my first ever National where I handled as a junior. At the 2018 Adelaide National I accomplished one of my biggest achievements winning not only the Bronze Medal in Obedience but a Dual Excellent. For me moving on from being a junior club member, to then being invited to judge at the 2019 National is a huge honour and privilege which I’m extremely excited about.

I would like to wish all the competitors a successful trial, best of luck for some lovely passes.
