 ASTA STARS AGAIN!

T.CH. RODATT ASTA U.D. A.D.M. A.D.O. J.D.M. J.D.O. G.D. S.D.X. E.T.
and Wendy Seng Hpa
July 2009

Asta & Wendy Seng Hpa have gained yet another title this year – Utility Dog – with a first placing in the ring at the recent Broadmeadows O.D.C. Inc. Obedience Trial.

Asta may be the one of the most titled GSD’s in Victoria, with this new title being her 18th!  She continues to enjoy any activity in spite of her owner/handler’s faults that may hinder her performance in the ring !!!. She’s a very happy working girl, nevertheless.

Asta is now officially T.CH. RODATT ASTA U.D. A.D.M. A.D.O. J.D.M. J.D.O. G.D. S.D.X. E.T. and her ‘mum’, Wendy, although very proud of her achievements, just loves her anyway!

Karl and Arko Retire from the Ring - May 3rd 2009

Karl Heyne and Heynfeld Varrgo CL I ‘A’ ‘Z’ H-neg

Son of Troy von der Noriswand and Kantenna Uschi Cl I ‘A’ ‘Z’

Born 7.5.2002 and better known as ‘Arko’

Arko started his show career at a young age. As a junior he came 2nd at the 2003 Canberra Show under two German judges and at the Main Breed Exhibition a week later 2nd in Junior under Fran Farley. At this stage, unbeknown to all, he had three paralysing ticks on his head, found by Karen Hedburg at the lunch break when asked to check him as he had started to lose control of his hindquarters. Karen then arranged veterinary care. We were told he would never be able to be shown again, but with a lot of hard work he returned to the ring about 14 months later and won intermediate classes three times under German and Australian judges.

Arko was always in the first twenty dogs at our Nationals and received the grading of Excellent many times over. We could not have asked for more and are very proud of him. After his recovery he was handled by Karl at 73 years old.

Karl is a life member of the GSDCV, was president in 1979 and training coordinator for 13 years. His involvement with GSD’s began in 1954 when he was a foundation member of the then Geelong German Shepherd Dog Club (now Geelong Obedience Dog Club). He was National council rep for them before his involvement with the Victorian German Shepherd Dog Club. Karl’s last role was as Geelong’s Branch manager from 2002-2007. Karl (we believe) is the only GSDCV member to have had both show and obedience judges licences. He was an obedience judge from 1969-2002 and a Group 5 judge from 1972-2002.

Now, at 76 years old, Karl has decided it was time they both retired.

For all those present at the GSDCV 83rd Championship Show on Sunday May 3rd 2009 it was a treat to watch Karl and Arko gait at full pace around the ring several times in their farewell appearance, neither missing a beat and both clearly enjoying every moment of it !
